Universal Audio UAD-1 Powered Plug-ins DSP Card
The UAD-1 DSP card from Universal Audio has some of the best dynamics emulations available in the plug-in market. Everybody who uses them says so. They include Pultec programme EQ (a three band emulation) the LA2A Telektronics Levelling Amplifier and the Urei 1176LN Compressor. All are faithfully reproduced including all their quirks. The card goes in a PCI slot of your PC, it is a full length card and takes up a bit of space, it has no connections to the outside world because it doesn't need any. On the card there is a big chip and a heatsink and that's what does the stuff.
Once installed the plug-ins behave like any other plug-in. I haven't attached screenshots of all the plug-ins, you can see these at the Universal Audio Website. There are VST and DX versions which appear to work pretty well, although I do get odd faults using mine particularly on non-realtime mixdown. You can run up to 4 cards on one machine and you can buy the odd plug-in such as the Cambridge EQ and Dreamverb (which is better than Realverb Pro, but still not that good in my view). There is a delay compensator if your host application doesn't do that for you. Along with the Pultecs, LA2A and 1176LN there is the Nigel guitar processor, which is effectively a modular multi fx unit, the CS-1 channel strip and the two reverbs, Realverb Pro and Dreamverb. They will happily work alongside other DSP cards like TC Powercore, TC Powercore Firewire and Creamware.
The dynamics are what you pay for, the rest is just add on, but definitely recommended.
